This software is designed for real-time character location identification in both images and videos.
We have developed this software mainly for detecting the location of vehicle plates in the images taken from a fixed camera. This information is then passed to another software for reading the plate numbers. It has very low complexity and needs an advance information about the approximate size of the plates.
Below are some example screenshots of outputs of the program in images.
Here is the MATLAB source code for character location identification in images.
Image database can be downloaded from here (57 pictures)
The computational complexity of the software is very low, so the software can detect character locations in real-time videos.
Below you can download vPlayer, dll file for character location identification which vPlayer will use, and the sample video clip.
The software is developed at the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Bilkent University,
the supervision of Prof. A. Enis Cetin who was an Associate
Editor of IEEE Transactions
on Image Processing between 1999 and 2003, and now he is an Associate Editor of Journal of Applied Signal Processing.
Please contact him, if you are interested in this software.
